Rev. Mark S. Hanson
Presiding Bishop, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Chicago, IL

In August 2001, the Churchwide Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) elected Mark S. Hanson to serve as presiding bishop. Before being elected presiding bishop, he served as bishop of the Saint Paul Area Synod (3H). He had been elected to serve a second term in Saint Paul earlier that same year. Prior to being elected synod bishop, he served as pastor of three Minnesota congregations: Prince of Glory Lutheran Church, Minneapolis; Edina (Minnesota) Community Lutheran Church; and University Lutheran Church of Hope in Minneapolis. more

Dr. Erik M. Heen
Professor of New Testament and Greek, The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, Philadephia, PA

Dr. Erik Heen is interested in the role of Scripture in the contemporary church as well as what the New Testament can tell us about the origins of Christianity. Increasingly, the history of biblical interpretation has also been a focus of his research. Together with Phil Krey, President of LTSP, he edited the Epistle to Hebrews volume in the Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture series (InterVarsity, 2005). He is currently researching the use of the Bible among Lutherans in North America in the 20th century. As part of his interpretation studies, he seeks to learn all he can about how the Bible is being actually read in parishes and homes in the United States today. He's always eager to hear about innovative approaches to parish-based Bible study, including those that explore "the Lutheran understanding" of Scripture. more

Dr. Diane L. Jacobson
Associate Dean of MA/MSM Programs and Professor of Old Testament, Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN

Diane Jacobson came to the Luther Seminary faculty as an assistant professor in 1982, and was promoted to associate professor in 1990. In 1999, she became professor of Old Testament. She was chair of the biblical division from 1993 to 1996. She currently serves as associate dean of MA/MSM programs. Dr. Jacobson was an instructor in biblical studies at New York Theological Seminary in 1980-82 following work at Union Theological Seminary, New York, as a tutor in Old Testament and Hebrew (1976-1979). more
