Teaching Lutheran Insights using Mark Allan Powell

After reading the second chapter of Opening the Book of Faith, I’m wondering if “How Can Lutheran Insights Open Up the Bible” could be printed in a pamphlet form? I think two additions that could be helpful would be discussion questions and short descriptions, if possible, of other general interpretive methods. I’ve found that most of what’s covered by Mark Allan Powell comes up over time in various Bible studies, but it would be helpful to use this resource when a Bible study group forms. The clarity of the distinctive “Lutheran” approach to scripture in a single readable and concise location would help sharpen discussion and interpretation. I think it would also be invaluable in new member classes, and for our sisters and brothers involved in interdenominational Bible studies. Are there any other ideas on forums and methods to use this?

Joe, Are you aware that Mark's material is all contained in one brand and completely revised DVD from Select Multimedia Resources? It includes a study guide for congregational use. The one DVD is divided into the following sections: The Seven Sessions Session 1: The Word Of God Session 2: What Lutherans Say About the Bible Session 3: Where the Bible Comes From Session 4: Interpreting the Bible in Context Session 5: Determining Right from Wrong Session 6: The Many Meanings of the Bible Session 7: Devotional Bible Reading At only $40 it is easily within reach of any congregation. www.selectlearning.org As a synod resource center director, I've found this to be a wonderful resource that accomplishes exactly what you are looking for. Peace and Joy, Greg

I had glanced at the DVD on the Select Learning website a while back, but didn't know much about it or Select Learning.  From your description of the sessions, it looks like I need to take a better look. Thanks for the response.  There are others in my text study who will like to hear about that DVD as well.
Pax, Joel
