 | Teresa,
I'm wondering if we might want to build on the tremendous success of Bible Bytes at our synod assemblies. Imagine inviting people of all ages to bring along their favorite Bible verse/story/book. If they were written on colorful pieces of paper shaped like the book of faith logo, collected during the worship service, and then posted all over the sanctuary or fellowship hall as a joint project by some or all of the SS classes depending on the size of your congregation, they would provide regular "go to" faith windows for groups throughout the fall.
This could be repeated several times during the year.
Just thought of this idea, but it seems that with some tweaking it could work.
Imagine what a visitor to your congregation would think about the role of the Biblical stories in the lives of the members if they wandered into your building for worship or for assistance!

Yes I do!
You will need lots of paper, cardboard, tape and artists (children make good artists)
Make the door to your Sunday School into a Giant Open Bible with a sign above that reads “Journey through the Bible” or “Welcome through the Book of Faith.” Once they enter the door they will see a sign “Welcome to Genesis where there will be pictures of the Creation, Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca, Jacob & Esau, Noah, etc. Then a sign “you are leaving Genesis” then “Welcome to Exodus.” Here would be Baby Moses in the Nile, the 10 Commandments, Parting of the Red Sea, etc. Some books will be hard: Song of Solomon, Job; some will be easy: Gospels. Make use of hallways to keep the tunnel effect and when you get to rooms use large cardboard to petition into tunnels. If you are in an area that is prone to nice weather take part of the journey outside (Market places, streets of Rome, Walk to Emmaus, etc. You don’t have to use strictly drawings, you can use nativities, crosses, lions dens out of Paper Mache and stuffed toy lions. You could set up refreshments where eating would be (the feeding of the 5000) and singing at the book of Psalms. And if your stuck on what to do with Leviticus you can put the offering there. Then have your tunnel experience end at the Sanctuary with a sign that says “Welcome to the Revelation of Jesus Christ”
Have a wonderful Rally Day |

 | Have people bring their favorite Bible and then either display or give 'prizes' for biggest, oldest, smallest, other language, or other unique features.
Also have a Bible trivia type context, mixing it up with people reciting Bible story related songs or finger-plays.
Create large cards with the books of the Bible on them. The older people would instruct the younger children in arranging them in order, with 2 or more teams competing against each other.
Using this event to kick-off a congregation-wide reading of the New Testament, or a book(s) of the Bible over the next 30-90 days would give your congregation a great start on this Book of Faith Initiative |

 | We currently do a weekly "Family 5" that is a series of short scripture verses for families to read together daily.
I am proposing the "Book of Faith 15" for our entire congregation to start on Rally Day Sunday using the Read through the Bible in one year plan on the Book of Faith page.
I exported the readings to Excel and then added the Book of Faith logo as the header. One of our other churches in VA is already reading through the Bible together.
Just an idea. If anyone would like a copy of the spreadsheet with logo already set up just e-mail me at ljgeiger1@cox.net and I'll send it to you.
Peace.

 | By the way - the 5 & 15 are meant to be indicative of 5 and 15 minutes.
I'm hoping everyone at my church can spare 15 minutes for God's word each day :-)!
Peace.

 | Here are some ideas that I use for IG Bible parties that might work for Rally Day. I take Bible stories such as the Prodigal Son and break them down into four or five parts. Each part is printed on paper, folded and put inside of a large balloon which is then blown up. Each story of four or five balloon is put into a large bag. Each group of people is given one of the bags of balloons. Then they have to pop the balloons, and assemble the story in the correct sequence using their Bibles.
Another idea - I have families or teams of people write down as many books of the Bible as they can think of in a certain amount of time - 10 minutes is about right. Then we see how many of the 66 books of the Bible they can remember.
Teach one of the songs that sing the books of the Bible.
Bible charades - Have people in groups draw a Biblical passage. They have to act it out for the others who have to guess what story it is. They can not use words but they can make sounds. |

 | These are all fabulous ideas! Keep them coming!
I do something similar to the balloons at our Sunday School Teachers Retreats. Depending on what year it is, (Year A, B or C, i.e. Matt, Mark or Luke), I will take unique passages from the Gospel and write one half on one index card and the other half on another. Then, I hand out the cards to the teachers and use it as an ice breaker where they have to match them together. Sometimes the combos they come up with are hilarious! Then we talk about what the different verses mean and how this illuminates the theology of the Gospel writer. The Sunday School Teachers always seem to appreciate a fun way to learn the Bible. |

 | We will also be kicking off our "book of faith " on Rally Day. As a normal part of our church year we give children who are 3 years old, going into 3rd grade and students entering Confirmation classes, new Bibles. We will be doing this on Rally Sunday this year. We will request that the children have their parents, their siblings, their grandparents, the pastor, their teachers all underline their favorite verses in the new Bibles.
As a part of our service for others we will be raising money to buy Bibles for a group that works with children who have lived through disasters (Camp Noah). Our children will have a calendar with Bible stories listed to read on it. As the children check off the stories they read, they will place an amount of money in a Bible Bank that they will make on Rally Sunday. (Take single serving cereal boxes and decorate to look like a Bible). At the end of September we will collect the Bible boxes and celebrate how many Bibles we will be able to provide for Camp Noah. We are hoping that the adults in the congregation will take up this challenge as well.
Also, our 1st rotation will be "Bible-Mainia!".
We are on our way!! |

 | The song "Ancient Words" by Lynn DeShazo is excellent especially for choral arrangement. The music would be a great addition for Rally Day worship. |
